A New LDS Blog Aggregator: Nothing Wavering

My friend Jonathan Max Wilson has created a new LDS blog aggregator called Nothing Wavering.

This aggregator (or blog portal) provides a number of improvements to what we have seen so far in LDS aggregators - first from a technological point of view and secondly (and perhaps just as importantly) it is non-hierarchical in its design.

He explains his reasons for creating this aggregator in a number of posts which I will link here:

A Critical Look At LDS Blog Portals Part 1: “Never Show Your Face Anywhere in the Bloggernacle Ever Again”

A Critical Look At LDS Blog Portals Part 2: The History of LDS Blog Portals

Announcing: NothingWavering.org an LDS Blog Portal for Mainstream, Orthodox Mormons

Thanks Rusty and Sara

Last night Diane and I attended the “East Coast Bloggasnacka.”  In the process, in addition to hosts Rusty and Sara, we were able to meet John Dehlin (Mormon Stories, the Cultural Hall), Amri Brown (w/ fiance Brett), Logan and Amy Bobo, Tom (from Nine Moons), Emily S. (from FMH), CJ Douglass, Mark Butler (”but not that Mark Butler”) and Russ Moorehouse (Cultural Hall - am I spelling the name right?  if not, my bad).  I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone.

The real news is that my wife came along with me … that’s right - the wife who hates blogging and thinks meeting people over the internet is creepy.  And … she had a great time.  Turns out she comes from the same part of Orem as Amy and Logan Bobo - or something like that.

For those who don’t know, John Dehlin is 6 feet 6 inches tall.  He’s also a very nice guy.  Which is good.  Because otherwise he’d probably beat us all up.  He’s also involved with a very cool “open education” project over at MIT.  I read about this project previously in the newspapers, not having any idea that he was a part of it.

Invisible Green Photography

Marcus John Taylor is LDS and has a wonderful photoblog called Invisible Green Photography.  Check it out.  I’ve added it to my aggregator.

Snarkernacle Gets Some Competition

There’s a new blog offering snarky commentary on LDS bloggers.  It’s called Trash Calls.   Many LDS blogs (including this one) have already gotten some attention.

Some thoughts, folks.  Trash Calls needs to get a better template, perhaps something with a little bit of color (but don’t follow Snarkernacle’s example and go hot-pink).  Also, one of these days, a snarker blog should be a little more serious - take a brave, giant step away from blogspot - and pay for it’s own url and hosting.

Trash Calls will be added to the Blognitive Dissonance aggregator shortly.

Bloggernacle Hits WordPress.com Hot Posts

Sometimes for the heck of it I check out WordPress.com’s “Today’s Hot Posts” feature, just to see what’s there. On more than a few occasions the list has been completely dominated by titles that have to do with Brittney Spears or other matters related to pop culture’s obsessions.

So it’s interesting to see that Feast Upon the Word’s post titled “New, Limited Edition LDS Quad” made it to the list today. With all due respect to a great project, that’s not something I would have predicted.

Feast Upon The Word

The last time I observed something LDS/bloggernacle-related it was Guy Murray’s post titled “176th Semiannual LDS General Conference Priesthood Session.”

Just for the record, if you are not impressed, let me remind you that according to it’s own tally, WordPress.com has 709,818 bloggers. For that post to appear out of that many possibilities, well it must mean something.
