Martha Graham quote
Tonight I heard Erin Morley read out a Martha Graham quote that I think is worth noting down somewhere:
“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is on a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.”

Hi, this is going to sound very random! I am trying to find a friend of mine and his wife. I Googled their name and found your blog references them briefly. Do you know Amy and Logan Bobo? They moved to the Bronx awhile back. I served my mission with Logan and we used to sing togother. A few of our friends were trying to figure out how to get ahold of him. If you happen to know, would you mind contacting me? Thanks!-Katie (Brady) Ritchie
Katie, I forwarded him a link to your comment here and also your email address.
Love this quote and thought you would want to know there is a small, but meaningful typo in the last sentence: There is on a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.” It should read:
There is only….rather than “on”
