On our walk in Central Park this morning, we saw this guy jogging and juggling at the same time.
I pointed at my camera, he grinned in response and I snapped this picture.
I came home and googled a bit, to see if I would find out anything about this. I ended up learning that “joggling” is a well-established form of exercise and those who engage in this are called “jogglers.”
Here is the wikipedia entry on the subject.
So if you ever get bored jogging, now you know what to do.

I had a friend explain to me once that using weight machines in a work out is not as good as using free weights because weight machines are mindless and the more you can engage your mind while you work out, the more calories you burn, thus making your workout more worthwhile by using free weights because you have to concentrate on your balance and other factors more. Perhaps Joggling has something to do with that theory, if it does, I would burning a billion calories because it would take a lot of brain power for me to walk and juggle…Hey perhaps the idea of walking and chewing gum won’t get such a bad rap! Or maybe it will be worse

Most people I interview joggle because it’s fun. The extra calorie burning and improvements to your mind are just a bonus.
Perhaps the best thing about joggling is to see the smiles of all the people you pass. For some reason, it just makes people happy.

Not quite the same, but somewhat, modern jongleurs.

I loved this entry. I just wish I had a good reason to eat this amount of calories daily.

OMG!! this is a picture of my dad. he loves juggling and joggling. hes been doing it ever since i can remember.
By day my dad is a psychiatrist, but on thursday nights he goes off to his juggling club. every year he and i go to the IJA (international jugglers association) anual festival. it is tons of fun, and we compete in the world championship joggling races.
i dont know if you can burn more calories by juggling while you run, but studies have shown that it does infact increase brain activity.
(look for my dad in november, he’ll be joggling in the NYC marathon)

Chloe, I’m glad you found this site and pic. When I jog in Central Park, I sometimes see your Dad still. Seeing him joggling always brings a smile. It’s fun to see.

Chloe, have your dad contact me. I’d love to do an interview. I have interviews of people from around the world who joggle. You can see them here.
