It’s fast Sunday for our congregation - so naturally I feel like blogging about food.
Have you ever had challah? If not, you need to find some somewhere and try it out. It is a wonderful, special kind of braided bread that is made for the Jewish sabbath.
A friend recently told me about the famous Zadies bakery that makes some of the best challah you can find here in New York. Zadie’s bakery is located in New Jersey but they send their products into Manhattan and perhaps even all over the United States (I’ll have to check on that a little bit - but that’s what I heard).
I brought home two loaves of Zadies whole wheat challah and we both thought it is some of the most delicious bread we’ve ever tasted. Here’s what the label looks like:
And here’s what’s left of one loaf, just so you can see a little bit what it looks like:
Honestly, I think just about anyone who tries this will be hooked on it. You will have to look for it in stores on Thursdays or Fridays because, as I said earlier, challah is specially made for the Jewish sabbath.
Besides bread, Zadies Bakery also makes pies, strudel and other desserts - a number of which involve a very good chocolate. It’s going to be fun trying them out.

Just looking at the bread is making me hungry!
Some of the best bread I ever tasted was on my mission in Brasil. The store in my first area had a bakery that made fresh bread every day! We would plan our p-day shopping trip to coincide with the baking schedule so we could get hot, just out of the oven rolls for us.
