“Mann trakht und Gott lakht”

Hermana Soto

This morning I took the A-train up to 181st Street. While I was exiting the subway at my stop, I saw a lady fold up a general conference ” ((“Every year, twice a year (in April and October)the LDS Church has a church-wide meeting in which the leaders speak to the church membership. This meeting is referred to as general conference. The talks from these general conference meetings are published in the Church magazine, which is called the Ensign. For more information, see the entry at Wikipedia.”))” issue of the Ensign and stick it into her purse. We were both leaving from the same door, so I asked her what was already obvious “Are you LDS?” She responded in the affirmative and since it was somewhat clear that she was a Spanish speaker I said “mucho gusto.” She then asked what ward I attend. We ended up having a conversation before going in different directions. I learned that she is from Puerto Rico, that she is married to a man who is from Mexico, that she is a convert to the church and that she attends a ward at 14th St.

Her first name has somehow slipped from memory, but it was fun saying hello and goodbye this morning to “Hermana Soto.” Mormons are pretty much everywhere these days – even if you’re on the New York City subway.

    LOL.

This happened because you reached the “celestial” neighborhood in New York City. The one with the only LDS publishing company in New York City (Mormon Arts and Letters).
