Beck To Harline

BYU quarterback John Beck scrambled for eleven seconds before his pass found receiver Jonny Harline open and alone in the end-zone. Winning the game (against a time-honored rival) on the last play after time has completely run out. It’s the stuff of schoolyard dreams.

My youngest brother sent the following (which I find amusing) to some sports radio show today, and they read it on the air:

Could we please hear the Steve Tate postgame comments about Curtis Brown grabbing his junk. I know that Curtis has run his mouth non-stop for the past 4 years and Bronco and company have refused to do anything about it. But if what Tate says happened is the truth, then Curtis should be suspended from the bowl game. Once again Curtis has shown what a total lack of class he has.

I’m less familiar with Curtis Brown. I’ll have to look him up and read more about him.

Does anybody have a source for these comments about Brown? I agree, if he did something like this he should be punished for his conduct… but this is the first I’ve heard of it.

    Connor,

    Here you go:
    Trib article
    Deseret News article
Post by an angry blogger on the subject

So yeah, he did it, pretty much admitted to it, it was brought up in the post game interviews, both papers have reported on it, and nothing has happened. Not that I would expect anything to happen to one of the Stripling Warriors, because they can do no wrong, but it would be nice to be surprised.

Connor, I really don’t know what it’s about. I googled “Curtis Brown” on Google News and didn’t come up with anything.

Update: ARJ’s previous comment (that is now showing) provides the info.

Being a Ute fan, I am a little dissapointed that we lost the game but not against Curtis Brown. BYU should have suspended that boy a long time ago. He does not in any manner, except that he wears a tie on sunday, represent the Church. He was not a key player in the game at all. He had negative yardage when we went into the third quarter. The best part was that a few nights before the game I was watching some “after the news sports show,” I believe with Craig Bolerjack, where Curtis was saying that it was going to be a blow out, and by FORTY points.

It sounds like Curtis Brown has not been helping his own cause with his shenanigans and bravado. I didn’t honestly know much about him until the responses I have heard on this thread.

I grew up watching BYU football and some of the past seasons have been pretty rough. I’ve been happy to see them succeed and become a much better team. However, cheap shots and bragging before the result is achieved aren’t becoming of BYU players.

Come on John, your comments sound like sour grapes to me. Tate comes off sounding like a baby who is assuming the worst in a scrap he got in. The groin shot allegation is totally unverified. It is nothing more that a “he said she said” situation and “he” got flagged for a personal foul so it is over. Curtis only said he did something he should not have (lost his temper and got flagged for a personal foul), he never confirmed Tate’s inflammatory claim. Implying otherwise seems disingenuous to me.
