Irving Zucker Art Books looks like a place to get very special books. I’m particularly interested in this copy of Josef Albers “Interaction of Color.” Update: I’ve since learned that a first edition copy of this book is a rare collector’s item worth thousands of dollars. The first edition came out in 1963, published by Yale and came with 150 color plates.
I really like what Ali Mirsky does with mosaics and mirrors.
[This post started as a snark but has been altered to deal with the topic more seriously.]
John Dehlin wants to be a full-time blogger for a living and to do this he estimates that he needs to make $2000-$4000 per month. He has posted a proposal for how this can be done.
He is also now posting the total of pledges he has received. It currently stands at $187 per month.
I wonder what will happen if Dehlin doesn’t get the kind of numbers he was hoping for … would he bring back his blog anyway and see if he could still get the money that readers have already committed? Would those who have made pledges still want to pay?
My prediction is that John Dehlin will bring his blog back, regardless of what happens.
This past Friday night we watched Akeelah and the Bee. It was our Netflix video, Diane’s pick.
At first I wasn’t interested. I hadn’t heard of it and thought a movie about a girl and a spelling bee would be boring. It wasn’t.
It’s a fantastic show. Strong characters, including (perhaps especially) the female characters. Extraordinary family and community values on display in believable yet dramatic ways. A great story. Give it a shot.
The news has recently been full of reports on Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle, whose plane crashed into a New York City high-rise, killing both him and his flight instructor. His flight instructor was a man named Tyler Stanger. This article describes Tyler Stanger as “a ’straight-laced family man’ and a member of the Mormon church.” (hat tip to Sustain’d).
