Perhaps there are armshields and then there are arm-shields. I looked at the 1830 edition, and both words are hyphenated. I’d be curious to know how the Original Manuscript (if extant here) and the Printer’s Manuscript read. Royal Skousen should cover the textual history of this passage in the next part of the Analysis of Textual Variants of the Book of Mormon series.
