I’d love to sit down and draw all day and into the night. Often there isn’t time for that. But when a person is busy there is still sometimes time to doodle. So I’ll start a new artblog category.

WOW. This is a bit of a departure from the previous pieces you have posted since I began monitoring your blog (last month or so). It looks Navajo or native-american inspired to my (admittedly untrained) eye.
What influenced this?

Hi Kent! The main influence here is simply all my past experiments with line and color. At times after finishing a piece I’ll feel that it has a sort of aboriginal, tribal or native feel to it. While I enjoy that kind of art quite a bit (one of my favorite artists is Helen Hardin or Tsa-sah-wee-eh) there is no deliberate or formal attempt on my part to imitate anything that is already out there. I simply follow my own feelings or intuition as I experiment with line and color.
Sometimes I like to “punctuate” my line drawings with smaller circles or other shapes, as can be seen in the images above. When I was drawing these, I was trying to draw abstract “cartoons.” At that time I even drew some abstract figures (that aren’t shown here) with speech bubbles, saying nonsensical things.

Dan, I like this style of your work best.

The blue figure is the most satisfying for me in this composition. Movement and direction are more clearly conveyed and it feels more stable than the other two figures, which seem to be looking for direction. The pink figure relates a sense of distress and the yellow urgency. Without the blue figure giving a release, this piece would just be too stressful.

Love your art Dan. Glad I found your site. I found you linked from here. I don’t remember if I mentioned that before.

Alex, thanks for dropping by. It’s been awhile since we had a chance to talk. Please say hi to Tia and to all the Halls for me.
