I’d love to sit down and draw all day and into the night. Often there isn’t time for that. But when a person is busy there is still sometimes time to doodle. So I’ll start a new artblog category.

I went into a gallery at 1014 Madison Avenue (NYC) for a few minutes and saw some artworks/sculptures by metalsmith and constructivist artist Roger Phillips. I really admire the way he works with bright colors, simple shapes and metals (stainless steel and aluminum plate). Besides the larger sculptures there are also smaller preliminary designs that are referred to as maquettes.
Wow! I am very impressed with what I have seen so far at this artist’s website. His work expresses ideas and gone in directions that I too would like to follow with my own artwork (though in my own style). I appreciate his emphasis on the use of dynamic colors and three-dimensional layered shapes that come out and away from the wall where a piece is hanging.
