Some time ago a friend commissioned some artwork. She was kind enough to send me a few pictures of the one piece I sent her so far.

Wow - so you’ve got people commissioning your art? That’s great. Do you ever draw people? Or are these paintings drawings of people? Like Cubism or something.

Occasionally someone will ask me if I will do an original piece for them. I try to comply. Especially for friends. It can take awhile sometimes. Just ask Claire.
I’m hoping that by using Zazzle I can make some of my artwork available to people (via prints, etc.). The nice thing about Zazzle is that a person can pay to have framed or unframed prints of variable (low-to-high) qualities. That way people who are interested have more immediate access to my work and they don’t have to wait.
You ask if I ever draw people. I don’t usually start out with an intention to draw something recognizeable. But I do begin with the desire to create dynamic and interactive forms — which sometimes leads to resemblances to reality or even organisms. I learned a new word the other day: pareidolia. If I had known that word earlier, it could have become the name of this blog.

How heavy is that canvas?

Lucy, it isn’t actually on canvas. It’s a drawing on paper (done with markers and pastels) that has been glued to black foamboard.
